Word of Smouth: Daphne Jane

Word of Smouth hearkens back to the very first form of marketing and still the most effective way of discovering something new. Sharing a personal authentic connection with another person carries weight. This is that series that puts each musician in control of whom I catch next. I take their word of mouth and recommendations of what band is worth venturing out to see live. By supporting other artists, it strengthens our community and spotlights artists that may not be as well-known. So sit back and followup along to discover new music through the mouth of the artists themselves.

Having interviewed Daphne Jane for The Mojo of Music, as well as spotlighting her as an Emerging Artist in 2024, I wanted to put my mouth behind my actions. So it was only natural that Daphne Jane kicks off the series at 7th Street Entry. Headlining the evening, the Entry erupted in excitement upon taking the stage. Instantly noticeable was the sheer talent of the band, tight and locked in from the very first song. Daphne Jane has a subtle charm and genuine relatability in her lyrics. Her sense of fashion ties into that message with lace, ribbons, and delicate bows. Witnessing her onstage, that voice easily transcends into the crowd with others wearing bows and ribbons in unity.

The setlist had a great pace to it with a few covers mixed in, most notably “Kiss Me”. Another detail I picked up on was Nate Walker continually making his way around the stage, engaging with the other band members and hyping up everyone, even quickly helping Anna Landsem remember bass lines during the encore for “Green”. Seeing that sincere support in a band tells you all you need to know.

Daphne’s voice is blend between floating whispers and defiant strength. Surrounded by talent, Daphne Jane is setup to have a tremendous 2024.
